Squaring both sides,
⇒ (13 sinx – 14 cosx)² = 15²
⇒ 169 sin²x + 196 cos²x – 364 sinx cosx = 225
⇒ -169 sin²x – 196 cos²x + 364 sinx cosx = -225
⇒ 169 – 169 sin²x + 196 – 196 cos²x + 364 sinx cosx = 169 + 196 – 225 = 140
⇒ 169 (1 – sin²x) + 196 (1 – cos²x) + 364 sinx cosx = 140
⇒ 169 cos²x + 196 sin²x + 364 sinx cosx = 140
⇒ (13 cosx)² + (14 sinx)² + (2 × 13 × 14 sinx cosx) = 140
⇒ (13 cosx + 14 sinx)² = 140
∴ 13 cosx + 14 sinx = √140 = 2√35
