The 7th and 12th term of an arithmetic progression are -15 and 5 respectively. What is the 16th term? Correct Answer 21

Let the first term of A.P. be a and let the difference be d

⇒ a + 6d = -15       ----(i)

⇒ a + 11d = 5       ----(ii)

Subtracting (i) from (ii)

⇒ 5d = 20

⇒ d = 4

Putting the value of d in (i)

⇒ a + 6 × 4 = -15

⇒ a = -15 - 24 = -39

So, 16th term = a + 15d = -39 + 15 × 4 = -39 + 60 = 21
