An examination of 40 questions is held on a school, in which 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer and 1/3 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. If a student attempts 33 questions and gets 21 marks, what per cent of total questions he answered wrong? (There is no penalty for unattended questions.) Correct Answer 22.5%
Let the number of questions, he answered correct = x
So, the number of questions, he answered wrong = 33 - x
The total marks received by student = 21
According to the question
x - = 21
3x - 33 + x = 63
x = 24
The number of questions, he answered wrong = 33 - 24 = 9
Required percentage = (9/40) × 100 = 22.5%
