A person earns 20% on an investment but loses 10% on another investment. If the ratio of the two investment were 3 : 5 then what would be the gain or loss percent on the two investment taken together? Correct Answer 1.25%

Since, ratio of two investment = 3 : 5

Let the two investment be Rs. 30 and Rs. 50 respectively.

Initial total investment = 30 + 50 = Rs. 80

∴ Investment after 20% gain = Rs. 36

Similarly, Investment after 10% loss = Rs. 45

Total investment after the gain and loss = 36 + 45 = 81.

Total gain = 81 – 80 = Rs. 1

Gain % = (Total Gain/Initial total investment) × 100 = (1/80) × 100 = 1.25%
