In a park there are some birds of 2 legs and animals of 4 legs and the total count of heads in the park is 42 and the total count of legs is 132, then what is the difference between the number of birds and animals in the park? Correct Answer 6
Let the number of birds and animals in the park be x and y respectively.
Total count of heads = x + y = 42 ----(1)
Total count of legs = 2x + 4y = 132
(x + 2y) = 66 ----(2)
From (1) and (2)∶
(x + 2y) - (x + y) = 66 - 42
y = 24
x = 42 - 24 = 18
Required difference = 24 - 18 = 6
