All the taps are opened and the tank is emptied in 2 hours. If a bucket holds 10 litres of water, what is the capacity of the tank?

Three taps P, Q and R are filled in a water tank to draw out water. Tap P fills 4 buckets in 24 minutes, Q fills 8 buckets in 1 hour and R fills 2 buckets in 20 minutes. All the taps are opened and the tank is emptied in 2 hours. If a bucket holds 10 litres of water, what is the capacity of the tank? Correct Answer 480 litres

The tank is filled in 2 hrs = 120 min

P fill in 24 min = 4 buckets

⇒ P fill in 120 min = 4/24 × 120 = 20 buckets

Q fill in 60 min = 8 buckets

⇒ Q fill in 120 min = 16 buckets

R fill in 20 min = 2 buckets

⇒ R fill in 120 min = 2/20 × 120 = 12 buckets

Total bucket = 20 + 16 + 12 = 48 buckets

If capacity of 1 bucket = 10 litres

∴ Capacity of 48 bucket = 480 litres
