The ratio of the number of apples to oranges in a garden is 3 : 5. 30% of apples and 40% of oranges are rotted. If the difference of rotted apples to fresh oranges is 420, what is the total number of fruits in the garden? Correct Answer 1600
Given,
The ratio of the number of apples to oranges in a garden is 3 : 5.
30% of apples and 40% of oranges are rotted.
Difference of rotted apples to fresh oranges is 420.
Formula:
x% of any number is = Actual number × (x/100)
Calculation:
Let the ratio of apples to oranges in a garden = 30x : 50x
Number of rotted apples = 30x × = 9x
Number of rotted oranges = 50x × (40/100) = 20x
Number of fresh oranges = 50x – 20x = 30x
According to the question
⇒ (30x – 9x) = 420
⇒ 21x = 420
⇒ x = 420/21 = 20
∴ Total number of fruits in the garden = (30x + 50x) = 80 × 20 = 1600
