We are given two circles in the tunnel. One is smaller than another. Given that diameter of the smaller circle is 8m.

So, let the radius of smaller circle $r = \frac{8}{2} = 4 m$

∴ Let the radius of larger circle will be $R = 4 + 1 = 5 m .$

∴ Shaded area of the circle will be $= ({πR}^{2} - {πr}^{2}) m^{2} = [π \times {(5)}^{2} - π \times {(4)}^{2}] m^{2} = (25 π - 16 π) m^{2} = 9 {πm}^{2}$

$ans . Shaded area is 9 {πm}^{2}$
