How to Get Rid of Crickets

Crickets can be a nuisance inside or outside your home, but getting rid of them doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are a few steps you can take to make your home cricket-free.

Inside Your Home

  • Remove any sources of food and water where crickets may be attracted to. This includesPet or human food, pet water dishes, and spills or moisture that has been left uncleaned.
  • Inspect around any doors and windows to make sure there are no gaps or cracks that crickets may be entering through. Fill in any cracks or gaps with caulking or insulation material.
  • Clean up any material in the home such as newspapers or clothing, which may be attractive to crickets.
  • Set out cricket traps that are formulated with food to lure them.
  • Hire a professional exterminator to spray in the home.

Outside Your Home

  • Eliminate any sources of water such as flowerpots, pet water dishes, and bird baths.
  • Place yellow lights in any area where there are multiple outlets such as on the sides of the house or on the patio. Crickets are drawn to yellow lights and it will help reduce the amount outside.
  • Mow and rake up your lawn. Remove any debris or old boards that may attract crickets.
  • Set out traps around the perimeter of the home and in any dark spots like beneath porches or decks.
  • Spread diatomaceous earth around the base of your home and in any places where you suspect crickets may have infested.
  • Hire a professional exterminator to spray the exterior of the home.
