Make a Simple Comic Strip

Creating a simple comic strip doesn't need to be a daunting task! With a bit of creativity and some helpful tools, anyone can create a fun and engaging comic strip. Follow these steps to begin creating your own comic.

Step 1: Brainstorm Ideas

Before putting pen to paper, decide on the topic of your comic. Start by coming up with characters, locations, and simple scenes. Pick topics that inspire you and write down ideas that come to mind. Aim to come up with at least 10 elements for your comic.

Step 2: Sketch the Comic Strips

Using any drawing tool from pen and paper to a digital drawing program, sketch out the frames and characters for your comic. Figure out how to convey the story and consider what panels should show dialog. You may need to draw more than one draft to get the composition just right.

Step 3: Color in the Comic Strips

Fill in the colors of the comic to give the strip a more complete look. Consider using bold colors to emphasize certain elements of the strip or soft pastels for a calming vibe. Use any medium of coloring you'd like, including but not limited to, pencils, markers, and paint.

Step 4: Add Text

When all the frames and characters are in place, it's time to add the text. Captions, dialogues, and thought bubbles are the most common textual elements of a comic strip. Generally, dialogues are presented in speech bubbles while captions are placed below each frame.

Step 5: Sharpen

Bring out the detail in your comic with the finishing touches! Sharpen the images and characters in your strip to give them a more professional look. Erase any unnecessary or missing lines and fill in any stray pixels.

Step 6: Publish the Comic

Share your comic with the world! Post it on your blog or website, or print it out to hang on your wall. Get creative and consider using a frame to display the comic as wall art!
