How to Remove Red Wine from Carpet
If you’ve accidentally spilled red wine on your carpet, don’t panic! Removing it can be tricky but we’ve put together some simple steps to help.
Step 1: Blot up the spill
Use paper towels or a white cloth to quickly blot up any excess wine that hasn’t already been absorbed by the carpet fibers. Don't rub it—this can push the stain deeper into the fibers.
Step 2: Make a cleaning solution
Mix one tablespoon of dish soap with two cups of warm water. Put the solution into a spray bottle and apply it directly to the stain, avoiding the edges of the spill.
Step 3: Blot the stain
Use the same paper towels or cloth you used to absorb the spill and use it to gently blot up the cleaning solution. Again, don’t rub it in.
Step 4: Rinse with clean water
Spray clean, cold water onto the affected area and dab it up with a clean damp cloth. Be sure to get as much of the soapy residue up as possible.
Step 5: Let the area dry
Finally, let the affected area dry completely. If the stain is still visible, you may have to repeat the steps until it is lightened or gone. If it’s still not budging, you can call a professional carpet cleaning service.
