Schizoid personality disorder is a mental disorder that is characterized by a lack of interest in social relationships, a tendency towards a solitary or sheltered lifestyle, and emotional distance. People with schizoid personality disorder may also display a preoccupation with fantasy, detachment from social norms, and distort reality.

Identifying Schizoid Personality Disorder

There are several characteristics which indicate that someone may have schizoid personality disorder, including:

  • lack of social engagement
  • social interaction is typically viewed as boring, unfulfilling, or costly
  • makes little effort to cultivate close friendships

  • preoccupation with fantasy, daydreaming and ideas
  • inability or difficulty expressing emotions
  • trouble understanding other people’s emotions
