How to Make Your Eyes Stop Hurting After Swimming
If you’ve experienced the pain of sore eyes after swimming, you know how unbearable it can be. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to quickly soothe the discomfort, protect your eyes from further irritation, and avoid a reoccurrence of the issue.
Instructions
- Rinse your eyes gently with clean, pure water. Use distilled water if possible, otherwise use filtered or boiled water that’s been cooled down.
- Make sure the water is lukewarm but not hot or cold.
- Gently spread open your eyelids and rinse one eye at a time.
- Once finished, tilt your head back and gently dry your eyes with a soft, clean towel.
- Afterwards, apply a cold compress to your closed eyelids for approximately 15 minutes.
- Use a humidifier if you’re in a particularly dry environment, or take some oral antihistamines to reduce any allergic response to chlorine or other elements.
- Take a break from swimming and use a chlorine remover or eye drops to help prevent any lingering irritation.
