Atomic mass of H = 1, N = 14 and O = 16
The mass percentage of H, N and O in HNO3
Formula :
Percentage (by weight) = \(\frac{Mass\,of\,the\,element\,in\,1\,mole\,of\,compound}{Molar\,mass\,of\,the\,compound}\) x 100
Calculation :
Molecular formula of HNO3
∴ Molar mass = 1 × (1) + 1 × (14) + 3 × (16)
= 1 + 14 + 48
= 63 g mol-1
∴ Percentage of H = \(\frac{1}{63}\) × 100 = 1.59%
Percentage of N = \(\frac{14}{63}\) × 100 = 22.22%
Percentage of O = \(\frac{48}{63}\) x 100 = 76.19%
∴ Mass percentage of H, N and O in HNO3 are 1.59%, 22.22% and 76.19% respectively.
Percentage of Hydrogen = 1/63 x 100 = 1.58 %
Nitrogen = 14/63 x 100 = 22.2%
Oxygen = 48/63 x 100 = 76.19%
