The law of conservation of mass states that mass can neither be created nor destroyed or mass of reactants is always equal to that of products.

   C        +        O2     → CO

Carbon + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide

Mass of reactants = 12 + 32 = 44 g

Mass of Product (CO2) = 44 g

(One mole of C reacts with 1 mole of oxygen to form 1 mole of CO2)
