Hydrochloric acid, pepsin and mucus are secreted by gastric gland present in the stomach.

They have following functions.

  • HCl Kills germs present in the food and it decreases PH of the stomach which is essential for the working of digestive enzymes.
  • Pepsin digests protein.
  • Mucus protects stomach’s innerline from HCl.
