Option 3 : Osmosis
Concept-
- Semipermeable membrane is a type of biological or synthetic, polymeric membrane that will allow certain molecule or ions to pass through it by osmosis.
- It can’t be pass substances some molecule such as hydrocarbon and oxygen can cross the membrane.
- This membrane cell to exchange nutrients and waste with blood.
Explanation-
- Movement of solvent (water) across a semipermeable membrane from an area of high water concentration to an area of lower water concentration.
- Example of osmosis -> The absorption of water from the soil is due to osmosis. The plant roots have a higher concentration than the soil. That’s why water flows into roots.
- Types of osmotic solutions:
- Isotonic solution
- Hypertonic solution
- Hypotonic solution
- Ultrafiltration- it is pressure driven barriers to suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, endotoxin and pathogen to produce water with high purity and low slit density.
- Active transport – active transport is the movement of molecules across a cell membrane from region of lower to higher concentration region.
- Diffusion- diffusion is a passive movement of molecule from a region of higher to lowe region concentration.
