Option 3 : Osmosis

Concept-

  • Semipermeable membrane is a type of biological or synthetic, polymeric membrane that will allow certain molecule or ions to pass through it by osmosis.
  • It can’t be pass substances some molecule such as hydrocarbon and oxygen can cross the membrane.
  • This membrane cell to exchange nutrients and waste with blood.

Explanation-

  • Movement of solvent (water) across a semipermeable membrane from an area of high water concentration to an area of lower water concentration.
  • Example of osmosis -> The absorption of water from the soil is due to osmosis. The plant roots have a higher concentration than the soil. That’s why water flows into roots.
  • Types of osmotic solutions:
  1. Isotonic solution
  2. Hypertonic solution
  3. Hypotonic solution

  • Ultrafiltration- it is pressure driven barriers to suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, endotoxin and pathogen to produce water with high purity and low slit density.
  • Active transport – active transport is the movement of molecules across a cell membrane from region of lower to higher concentration region.
  • Diffusion- diffusion is a passive movement of molecule from a region of higher to lowe region concentration.
