Option 2 : S1 is observation; S2 is inference

Observation and inference both are totally different.

  • Observation is considered to be acquiring information through any of the sensors by experimenting and exploring various factors related to the concept. Observation can be clearly seen or heard or felt by the observer and it can be recorded also.
  • The inference is like a conclusion that is based on the observation but it can't be directly seen are experienced through any of the senses. The inference is drawn when the expected or positive result is obtained from the observation and it is considered as a generalization.

  • S1 is an observation as the student can see that when turmeric is added to both solutions solution 1 turned red and there is no change in solution 2.
  • S2 is an inference because here the student did not directly observe that Solution A is base and solution B is an acid. But this was an inference developed according to the observations made in S1.

Hence S1 is observation; S2 is an inference.
