Option 1 : Squinting of eyes while reading
Visual Impairment: The term 'visual impairment' is used to refer to not only those who are blind but also those who have their own vision. When the person has residual vision above a certain level, he is said to have low vision or poor vision. However, if the residual vision is below that level, he is considered to be blind.
Problem that can represent the low vision of the learners:
- Can not read the words on the blackboard while teaching-learning process.
- Squinting eyes while reading books, magazines, etc.
- Seeing blurry images is also a factor that represents low vision.
Thus by all these references, we can conclude that, squinting of eyes while reading is one of the causes that shows that the learner has problems with eyes.
Instructional adaptations that a teacher should make to address the needs of children with low vision include:
- Use of large-print books.
- Use of a lot of touches and feel materials.
- Use of three-dimensional maps and charts.
- Use of software that converts text to speech.
- Give verbal clues to create opportunities to imagine.
- Introduce tactile materials such as felt books and felt boards.
- Speak clearly, explicitly, and loudly with appropriate pauses and reiterations.
- Provide learning with the help of auditory systems such as an audio CD of the textbook, radio, etc.
- Using a braille system to make them read-write as its raised dots will help the child to study the words through the pattern.
