Option 3 : It is cheaper comparatively
Advantages of Gravity Control:
- It is slightly cheaper in manufacturing costs as compared to spring control.
- It is unaffected by temperature variations.
- It is not subjected to fatigue.
- The controlling torque can be changed easily.
Disadvantages of Gravity Control:
- The instrument has to be kept in a vertical position.
- The control weight increases the weight of the moving system.
- Gravity-controlled instruments have a non-uniform scale.
Gravity Control: It consists of a small weight attached to the moving system whose position is adjustable. This weight will produce a controlling torque due to gravity. This weight is called control weight.

- When the instrument is disconnected from the supply, the control weight and the balance weight attached to the opposite end of the pointer make the pointer to be at zero position.
- When the instrument is connected to the supply, the pointer moves in a clockwise direction, thereby displacing the weights shown in the figure.
- Due to the gravitational pull, the weights will try to come back to its original position.
