Option 1 : (a) and (b)
Summative assessment refers to the assessment of the learning that ‘sums’ or ‘summarizes’ the development of students at a particular time. It is a process of assessing (and grading or ranking) the learning of students at a point in time.
Features of Summative Assessment :
- It is the assessment of learning performance that is conducted at the end of a course or a unit of a course, to demonstrate the “sum” of what they have learned.
- Utilizes the most traditional assessment methods of evaluating students’ work.
- The results are used for ranking or grading the students which are required in planning any large-scale academic intervention, and inter and intra school comparisons in terms of achievement.
On the other hand "Can be used during the learning process to modify teaching and learning activities" is a feature of formative assessment. " Formative assessment is a range of formal and informal assessment procedures employed by teachers during the learning process to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment".
Hence, we can conclude that option 1 is correct.
