Option 1 : Addition with regrouping
Addition with regrouping is a technique used in Maths when adding together two or more numbers of any size. It is used with the column method of addition, where sums are arranged vertically, and numbers are added one column at a time. Regrouping is also referred to as "carrying over".Example: Add 6743, 2469, 538
Carry 1 1 2
6 7 4 3
2 4 6 9
+ 5 3 8
----------------
9 7 5 0
- Add units 3 + 9 + 8 = 20. Write 0 in the units column and carry 2 to the tens column.
- Add tens 2 + 4 + 6 + 3 = 15. Write 5 in the tens column and carry 2 to the tens column
- Add hundreds 1 + 7 + 4 + 5 = 17. Write 7 in hundreds column and carry 1 to thousands column and carry 1 to thousands column
- Add thousands 1 + 6 + 2 = 9. Write 9 in thousands column.
Hence Addition with regrouping should be used for remediation of addition.
- Forward counting is counting by adding one more, every time.
- One-to-one correspondence- Suppose you are given a certain number of cups and saucers and are asked to find out whether there are enough saucers for all the cups. How would you do this? By counting the number of cups and saucers, of course! But what will you do if you do not know how to count? Can you still answer the question? Yes, by matching (or pairing) each cup with a saucer. This means that you set up the cups and saucers in one-to-one correspondence with each other. Thus, pairing is simpler than counting and is basic to it.
