Option 2 : Median is greater than the mean

Given:

The series of the scores 15, 8, 13, 1, 23, 15, 20, 1

Formula used:

Mean = Sum of terms/Total number of terms

Median of data depends on the number of observations (n)

If number of observation is odd then

Median = Value of th observation

If number of observation is even then

Median = (1/2) × value of observation

Calculation:

The series of the scores 15, 8, 13, 1, 23, 15, 20, 1

Mean = (15 + 8 + 13 + 1 + 23 + 15 + 20 + 1)/8 = 96/8 = 12

There are two numbers 1 and 23 at the middle of the series. Then the median will be the average of these two numbers.

Arrange the given data in ascending order 1, 1, 8, 13, 15, 15, 20, 23

Here n = 8 which is even

Median = (1/2) × value of observation

⇒ (13 + 15)/2

⇒ 14

∴ Median is greater than the mean

Hence, option 2 is correct.
