Option 4 : Using language to social categorization

The language development of the child at the early stage takes place in the mother language/home language, which is the first language that is spoken in his/her immediate surroundings.

  • The child acquires grammar and vocabulary of the mother language quite fast, hence the primary education of the child should be based on the mother tongue.

Following are the ways by which we can foster language development:-

  • Using language to express their fantasies.
  • Encourage children to express themselves and ask questions.
  • Using language to narrate events to begin and end a conversation.
  • Provide opportunities to enhance pre-reading and pre-writing skills.
  • Using language to form and maintain social contact.
  • Talk to them on topics of interest to them or on day-to-day experiences of children.

Thus, it is concluded that using language to social categorization does not foster language development.
