Option 1 : Vastus laterlis

Concept:

  • The anterolateral thigh is mainly the  preferred site for IM injection in infants under 12 months of age.
  • Medications are usually injected into the bulkiest part of the vastus lateralis thigh muscle, which is located t the junction of the upper and middle thirds of this muscle.

  •  The ventrogluteal muscle is preferred as the safest site for adults and children older than 7 months. It's deep and not close to any major blood vessels or nerves.
