Option 4 : Step-down transformer
- The Transformer does not produce energy rather it is a static device.
- A Transformer is an electrical device which helps to either step up or step down voltages in Alternating Current (A.C) transmission line.
- Transformer works on the principle of Mutual Induction.
- Mutual Induction: If an alternating Current is applied to two coils that are coupled inductively when the current in the primary coil has changed the flux linked to the secondary coil also changes. Consequently, an EMF is induced in the secondary coil.
- If the number of turns in the primary coil is greater than turns in the secondary coil then it is called Step down transformer.
- A step down transformer gives output voltage less than the input voltage and step down transformer is vice versa.
- If the number of turns in the primary coil is less than turns in the secondary coil then it is called Step up transformer.
- A step up transformer gives voltage greater than the input voltage and step down transformer is vice versa.
