Option 4 : 9

Given,

Average of three numbers = 27

Ratio of three numbers = 2 : 3 : 4

Formula:

Average = Sum of all observation/Total number of all observations

Calculation:

Sum of all three numbers = 3 × 27 = 81

According to the question

2x + 3x + 4x = 81

⇒ 9x = 81

⇒ x = 81/9

⇒ x = 9

First number = 2 × 9 = 18

Second number = 3 × 9 = 27

Third number = 4 × 9 = 36

Average of first two numbers = (18 + 27)/2 = 45/2 = 22.5

Average of last two numbers = (27 + 36)/2 = 63/2 = 31.5

∴ Average of first two numbers is less than that of last two numbers = 31.5 – 22.5 = 9
