Option 1 : Convex

CONCEPT:

  • The optical instrument which reflects the light falling on it and makes images of anybody is called a mirror.
    • The mirror which has a spherical reflecting surface is called a spherical mirror.
    • A mirror whose reflecting surface is flat is called a plane mirror
    • The mirror whose reflecting surface is a part of a cylindrical surface is called a cylindrical mirror.

There are two types of spherical mirror:

Convex mirror:

  • The spherical mirror whose reflecting surface is in upside is called a convex mirror.
  • It always from a virtual image of any object.

Concave mirror:

  • The mirror whose reflecting surface is inward is called a concave mirror.
  • It can form both real as well as virtual images of any object.

EXPLANATION:

  • The convex mirror forms a virtual image of any object which is erect.
  • It also from a full size diminished image of the objects placed at far away distance with a wide range of field of view.
  • Due to a wide range of fields of view, we can see the image of the maximum object behind the vehicles.
  • Hence we use a convex mirror in the rearview. So option 1 is correct.
