Option 4 : EX-OR

ALU means Arithmetic and Logic Unit and it performs arithmetic and logical functions and the complement of operation is performed by either EX-OR gate or EX-NOR gate. An EX-OR is used because it can be used both as buffer and inverter by setting on of the inputs to 0 and 1 respectively. This also explains why a NOT gate being a more straight forward solution is not used.
