Option 3 : VG10

Concept:

Grade of bitumen is based on :

a. Penetration value – Penetration value is calculated by measuring the penetration of standard needle consisting 100gm weight in the bitumen sample at 25°C during 5 seconds. Greater the penetration value, softer will be the bitumen.E.g. 80/100 where penetration value is between 80 to 100.

b. Viscosity –Based on viscosity, gradings are VG30,VG20,VG10. Where VG stands for “Viscosity Grading” and numeric value denotes absolute viscosity at 60°C and kinematic viscosity at 135°C.

VG-10 BITUMEN: VG-10 is widely used in spraying applications such as surface-dressing and paving in very cold climate in lieu of old 80/100 Penetration grade. It is also used to manufacture Bitumen Emulsion and Modified Bitumen products. It is used when maximum average temperature is 15° C.
