On the 44^th Amendment act of 1978, when an emergency was approved it continues for 6 months. Hence statement 1 is incorrect.
The emergency can be extended to an indefinite period (approval every 6 months)
The proclamation of emergency must be approved by both the houses of parliament within one month from the date of its issue. Hence statement 2 is correct.
Before the 44^th amendment act, there is no provision for extending an emergency, once approved it can be for an indefinite period until it is revoked by the president.
