- Vitamin A is also called Retinol. Deficiency of Vitamin A leads to a disease called Nyctalopia (night blindness) where the patient suffers from poor vision at night. Also, it may cause premature death in children below the age of 5.
- Food rich in vitamin a are Carrots, Spinach, Sweet potato, Lettuce, etc.
- Vitamin B is complex comprising of different vitamins: B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxin), B7(biotin),B9 (folate) and B12 (cobalamin)
- Vitamin C: It is also known as ascorbic acid. It acts as an antioxidant. It is an essential nutrient for the body as it is involved in tissue repair and enzyme-related functions. A deficiency of vitamin C can cause a disease known as scurvy
- Vitamin D: It is also called Calciferol. It helps in the absorption of calcium dissolved in the blood, It prevents the weakening of bone and tooth. Vitamin D also has other functions in the body, including cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation. Vitamin D deficiency can cause rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.
