Option 4 : 1, 2, 3 and 5 only
Concept:
Unit Hydrograph (UH): It is defined as the hydrograph of storm runoff resulting from an isolated rainfall of some unit duration occurring uniformly over the entire area of the catchment, produces a unit volume (i.e., 1 cm) of runoff.
Assumptions for generating unit hydrograph:
- Uniform areal distribution within a storm: Rainfall intensity due to a particular storm is uniformly distributed throughout the whole catchment area.
- Intensity of rainfall is invariant within a storm: Rainfall intensity does not vary within the reach of the storm.
- Catchment does not have any large and concentrated storage.
- Superposition and addition of UH of a sub parts of catchment area with proper routing will produce the same UH if calculated considering the catchment area as a whole and one.
- In case of large storms when centre of storm is varying unit hydrograph theory is not valid and not applicable.
∴ Only statement 4 complies with the assumptions of unit hydrograph theory and rest of the statements do not. So, statement 1, 2, 3 and 5 will pose difficulties in adopting unit hydrograph principles.
