Option 4 : Can't be determined
Let the cost of oranges be Rs. a/kg
⇒ Cost of apples = Rs. 2a/kg
And, the cost of lemons = Rs. (a – 5)/kg
Let take that Ram buys 2b lemons, 3b oranges and 7b apples
So, Ram’s shopping (in Rs.) = 2b(a-5) + 3b(a) + 7b(2a) = 2ab – 10b + 3ab + 14ab = 19ab – 10b
Since, Rs.950 is after 20% discount,
⇒ Amount before discount = 950/(1 – 20/100)
⇒ Amount before discount = Rs. 1187.5…….(i)
Let take that Shyamand Suresh buys 4c lemons, 5c oranges and 9c apples
⇒ 19ab – 10b + 4c(a - 5) + 5c(a) + 9c(2a) = 1187.5………..(ii)
Now, a + 2a + a – 5 = 75
⇒ a = 20…….(iii)
Putting (iii) in (ii), we get
⇒ 380b – 10b + 60c + 100c + 360c = 1187.5
⇒ 370b + 520c = 1187.5
Here, we have 1 equation and 2 variables.
∴ the correct option is (4)
