Option 3 : 175

⇒ Average = sum of elements / number of elements

Given,

There are 35% students who likes coffee and 55% students likes Tea and there are 10% students who like both

Number of students who likes only coffee = 35 - 10 = 25%

Number of students who likes only Tea = 55 - 10 = 45%

Let the number of students who likes coffee and who likes Tea be m and n respectively.

In percentage,

Total number of students in college = number of students who like only coffee + number of students who like only Tea + number of students who like both + number of students who don’t like any of these two

⇒ 100% = 25% + 45% + 10% + percent of students who don’t like any of these two

Percent of students who don’t like any of these two = 100 - 80 = 20%

There are 100 students who didn’t like any of these beverages.

⇒ 100 = (20/100) × Number of students in college

Number of students in college = 500

Number of students who likeonly coffee = 25% = (25/100) × 500 = 125

Number of students who like only Tea = 45% = (45/100) × 500 = 225

Total number of students who like only coffee and only Tea = 125 + 225 = 350

Average number of students who like only coffee and only Tea = 350 / 2 = 175

There are 175 average number of students who likes either Coffee or Tea
