Option 2 : 4 hour

Given:

Speed of boat : Speed of stream = 24 : 1

Distance(D) = 100 km

Formula Used:

In Downstream,

Distance = Speed × Time = (SB + S) × T where SB is Speed of Boat and S is Speed of Stream and T is Time Taken

In Upstream,

Distance = Speed × Time = (SB – S) × T

Calculations:

Let the speed of Boat = SB and Speed of Stream = S

Speed of Boat : Speed of Stream = 24 : 1

Multiply by x

Speed of Boat : Speed of Stream = 24x : 1x

Condition 1:

⇒ In Downstream

⇒ Total Speed = Speed of boat + Speed of Stream

⇒ Total Speed = 24x + 1x = 25x

⇒ Total Distance = Speed × Time

⇒ Total Distance = 25x × 2

⇒ 100 = 50x

⇒ x = 2

Speed of Boat = 24x = 48 km/h

Speed of Stream = 1x = 2 km/h

Condition 2:

In Upstream

⇒ Speed of Boat = 48 + 4 = 52 km/h

⇒ Speed of Stream = 2 km/h

⇒ Speed in Upstream = 52 – 2 = 50 km/h

Distance = 2 × D = 2 × 100 = 200

Time = Distance/Speed

Time = 200/50

Time = 4 hours

The Time Taken by another boat is 4 hours
