Two whole numbers differ by 1495. When the larger number is divided by the smaller, the quotient is 8 and the remainder is 25. The sum of the two numbers is:?

Concept Used:

Dividend = (Divisor × Quotient) + Remainder 

Calculation:

Let two numbers be x and y, x > y

x – y = 1495

x = 1495 + y      ---(I)

When x is divided by y, 

Quotient is 8 and Remainder is 25

⇒ x = (8 × y) + 25

⇒ x = 8y + 25

Putting the value of equation I,

⇒ 1495 + y = 8y + 25

⇒ 1470 = 7y

⇒ y = 1470/7

⇒ y = 210

Putting the above value in the equation I,

⇒ x = 1495 + 210

⇒ x = 1705

Now thee sum of two numbers is,

⇒ x + y = 1705 + 210

⇒ x + y = 1915 

∴ The sum of two numbers is 1915.
