Option 1 : 10
Given
A can do a work in 20 days
A started the work alone and worked for 12 days
B joins him and completed the remaining work in 4 days
Formula Used
Work = Time × Efficiency
Where Efficiency = .
Calculation
Let the efficiency of A and B be x and y respectively.
According to the question,
⇒ 20 × x = 12 × x + (x + y) × 4
⇒ 20x = 16x + 4y
⇒ 4x = 4y
⇒ x/y = 1/1
The efficiency of A is 1 and B is 1.
Total work = efficiency of A × Number of days taken by A
⇒ 1 × 20 = 20
Now, A and B complete the work together = (Total work)/(Efficiency of A and B)
⇒ 20/(1 + 1)
⇒ 10 days
∴ Both A & B working together to complete the whole work in 10days.
