Option 3 : 75

Given:

The average weight of A, B, and C = 84 kg

The average weight of B, C, D and E = 79 kg.

The average weight of A, B, C and D = 80 kg

Formula used:

Average = Sum of observations/Total number of observations

Calculation:

Total weight of A, B, and C = 84 × 3

⇒ A + B + C = 252 kg      ----(1)

According to the questions,

If D joins this group, their average weight becomes 80 kg.

⇒ A + B + C + D = 320 kg      ----(2)

From equations (1) and (2), we get

A + B + C + D = 320 kg

⇒ 252 + D = 320

⇒ D = 68 kg

weight of E = 68 + 3

⇒ 71 kg

Total age of B, C ,D and E = 79 × 4

⇒ B + C + D + E = 316 kg

⇒ B + C + 68 + 71 = 316

⇒ B + C = 177

Put (B + C) = 177, in equation (1)

A + 177 = 252 kg

⇒ A = 252 - 177

⇒ A = 75 kg

∴ The weight of A is 75 kg.
