The logic follows here is:

(a) A is heavier than S and B and is less heavy than U who is not the heaviest.

⇒ _ > U > A > S, B

As U is not the heaviest and it is heavier than A which is heavier than S and B.

Therefore, it is clear that 'A' is third from the top.

So, (b) is not necessary to answer this question.
