Introduction
Norgestrel, Ethinyl Estradiol, and Ferrous Fumarate combination is a medication commonly used as an oral contraceptive for the prevention of pregnancy. Norgestrel is a progestin, and Ethinyl Estradiol is an estrogen. Together, they prevent ovulation. Ferrous Fumarate is included in some formulations to provide an iron supplement, especially important for individuals with menstruation-induced iron deficiency.

Mechanism of Action

How Long Does It Take to Work?
The contraceptive effect begins after the first 7 days of consistent use. Full efficacy is achieved with continued, correct use throughout the menstrual cycle.
Absorption
Ethinyl Estradiol and Norgestrel are rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with peak plasma levels typically occurring within 1-2 hours of ingestion.
Route of Elimination
Both Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol are metabolized in the liver and excreted primarily via the kidneys in urine. A portion is also excreted via feces.
Dosage
To achieve maximum contraceptive effectiveness, Norgestrel & Ethinyl Estradiol and ferrous fumarate must be taken exactly as directed and at intervals not exceeding 24 hours. The possibility of ovulation and conception prior to initiation of medication should be considered. The dosage of Norgestrel & Ethinyl Estradiol and ferrous fumarate is one white tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by one brown tablet daily for 7 consecutive days, according to prescribed schedule. It is recommended that tablets be taken at the same time each day.The typical dosage is one tablet containing Norgestrel, Ethinyl Estradiol, and Ferrous Fumarate taken daily at the same time for 21 days, followed by 7 days of placebo (Ferrous Fumarate tablets) or no pills. The cycle then repeats.
Administration
