Introduction

Serifen Tablet 400 mg, S(+)-ibuprofen, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is a pharmacologically effective enantiomer of racemic ibuprofen that differs in physicochemical properties. It is proposed to be more pharmacologically active and tolerable with a better safety profile than ibuprofen due to higher concentration of active S enantiomer. Serifen Tablet 400 mg has a slower dissolution rate in the simulated gastric and enteric juices compared with the racemic ibuprofen and displays improved oral bioavilability . Mechanism of Action

Like common NSAIDs, dexibuprofen is an active enantiomer of ibuprofen that suppresses the prostanoid synthesis in the inflammatory cells via inhibition of the COX-2 isoform of the arachidonic acid COX. For more information, refer to ibuprofen.

Dosage

The dosage must be adjusted to the seriousness of the syndrome and the complaints of the patient. During chronic pain, the dosage must be adapted to the lowest effective dose.

The recommended dosage: 600-900 mg Serifen Tablet 400 mg per day, at 2-3 divided doses. The dosage can be raised temporarily up to 1200 mg Serifen Tablet 400 mg per day in patients with acute disorders or exacerbations. The maximum daily dose is 1200 mg.

At dysmenorrhea: A dosage of 600 up to 900 mg Serifen Tablet 400 mg per day, at a divided dose.
