Introduction

A pyrethroid insecticide commonly used in the treatment of lice infestations and scabies. It is a yellow to light orange-brown, low melt-ing solid or viscous liquid.

Uses

Permezen Cream 5% w/w is an insecticide used to prevent infestation with Sarcoptes scabiei (scabies).

For the treatment of infestation with Sarcoptes scabiei (scabies).

Pharmacodynamics

Permezen Cream 5% w/w, a pyrethroid, is active against a broad range of pests including lice, ticks, fleas, mites, and other arthropods.

Mechanism of Action

Permezen Cream 5% w/w acts on the nerve cell membrane to disrupt the sodium channel current by which the polarization of the membrane is regulated. Delayed repolarization and paralysis of the pests are the consequences of this disturbance.

Absorption

Poorly absorbed through the skin.

Route of Elimination

Permezen Cream 5% w/w is rapidly metabolized by ester hydrolysis to inactive metabolites which are excreted primarily in the urine.

Toxicity

Oral, rat LD50: 430 - 4000 mg/kg; skin, rabbit LD50: 2000 mg/kg.

Dosage

Recommended duration of Treatment:
  • Adults and children over 12 years: a full tube
  • Children aged 6-12 years: up to 1⁄2 of a tube
  • Children aged 1-5 years: up to  ¼ of a tube
  • Children aged 2 months to 1 year: up to ⅛ of a tube
  • Children Less then 2 month: dose is not established
