Introduction

Opthaflox Ophthalmic Solution 0.3% is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria. It belongs to a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones and works by stopping the growth of bacteria that are causing the infection.

Opthaflox Ophthalmic Solution 0.3% is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, ear infections, eye infections, skin infections, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Mechanism of Action

Opthaflox Ophthalmic Solution 0.3% works by inhibiting the enzymes involved in bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, which prevents bacteria from multiplying and spreading. In this way, lomefloxacin is able to kill the bacteria that are causing the infection.

How Long Does it Take to Work?

Opthaflox Ophthalmic Solution 0.3% works quickly and begins to kill the bacteria causing an infection within 2 to 4 hours of taking the drug. Studies have shown that most infections are cleared up within 5 days of taking lomefloxacin.

Absorption

Opthaflox Ophthalmic Solution 0.3% is well absorbed when taken orally and is rapidly distributed throughout the body. The peak concentration of lomefloxacin in the blood occurs approximately 2 hours after taking the drug.

Route of Elimination

Opthaflox Ophthalmic Solution 0.3% is eliminated from the body primarily through the kidneys. Some of the drug is also metabolized in the liver.

Dosage

Adults and children (above 1 year of age): Instill 2-3 times daily 1 drop into the lower conjunctival sac. At the beginning of the treatment application should be more frequent, apply 5 drops within 20 minutes or 1 drop every hour during 6-10 hours. Duration of the treatment: 7 to 9 days.

The recommended dose of lomefloxacin is 400 mg taken orally once per day. Depending on the type of infection being treated, the dosage may be adjusted to 400 mg taken twice daily or 600 mg taken once daily.

Administration
