Introduction

Mystacin Tablet 10 mg is a first-generation antihistamine that has been used for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and urticaria. It is also an anti-inflammatory agent, used to help reduce congestion, sneezing, headaches, and other allergies caused by exposure to pollen and other allergens. It is a racemic mixture, containing equal amounts of both the (+) and (–) enantiomers.

Uses

Mystacin Tablet 10 mg is used to provide relief from seasonal allergies such as hay fever, allergic conjunctivitis, and upper respiratory allergies. It is also used to relieve the itching and swelling of hives and other skin allergies. It may also be used to treat the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes.

Mechanism of Action

How Long Does it Take to Work?

Mystacin Tablet 10 mg usually begins to work within 30 minutes of taking it. Maximum relief may not be experienced for up to 4 hours after taking the medication.

Absorption

Mystacin Tablet 10 mg is rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract after oral administration.

Route of Elimination

Mystacin Tablet 10 mg is eliminated primarily in the urine, with a small amount excreted in the feces.

Dosage

Adult- Usual adult dose is 4 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 24 mg daily.

Child-
  • 6-12 years: 2 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 12 mg daily.
  • 2-5 years: 1 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 6 mg daily.
  • 1-2 years: 1 mg twice daily.
Below 1 year the use of Chlorpheniramine Maleate is not recommended. The adult dose of Mystacin Tablet 10 mg for allergies is 4 mg taken twice daily. For hives, the adult dose is 4 mg taken 3 times daily. For children between 6-12 years old, the dose is 2 mg taken twice daily. For children younger than 6 years old, the dose should be determined by the healthcare provider.

Administration

Mystacin Tablet 10 mg should be taken orally with or without food. Do not exceed the recommended dosage and do not take this medication for longer than recommended by your healthcare provider.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Mystacin Tablet 10 mg include dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and headaches. Serious side effects may include difficult urination, blurred vision, confusion, tremors, and seizures.

Toxicity
