Mechanism of Action

Mometasone furoate acts by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in the skin and reducing the production of inflammatory chemicals which cause the inflammation, redness, itching and swelling associated with eczema and other skin conditions.

How Long Does it Take to Work?

Generally, mometasone furoate products will begin to work within 24 to 48 hours of application, with symptoms such as redness and itching reducing significantly. However, it may take up to two weeks for a full course of treatment to complete.

Absorption

Mometasone furoate is readily absorbed through intact human skin, with peak concentrations occurring between 1 and 24 hours after topical application. The efficacy of treatment with mometasone is increased when it is applied to skin that is inflamed from the conditions it is intended to treat.

Route of Elimination

Mometasone furoate is eliminated from the body mainly in urine and feces. The elimination half-life of mometasone is approximately 12 hours.
