Introduction

Mechanism of Action

Flosin Capsule 4 mg works by blocking certain types of alpha receptors in the bladder and prostate. By blocking these receptors, the smooth muscles around the urethra are relaxed, allowing for improved urine flow and decreased discomfort associated with BPH symptoms.

How Long Does it Take to Work?

Some patients may experience an improvement in their BPH symptoms within a few days of starting Flosin Capsule 4 mg. However, it can take up to 8 weeks to experience the full effects of Flosin Capsule 4 mg.

Absorption

Flosin Capsule 4 mg is rapidly and extensively absorbed following oral ingestion and approaches its peak concentrations within 0.5 to 2 hours.

Route of Elimination

Flosin Capsule 4 mg is primarily eliminated through the renal route and undergoes extensive metabolism via the cytochrome P450 enzyme system.

Dosage

The recommended dose is Silodosin 8 mg orally once daily with a meal. 4 mg capsules taken orally once daily with a meal for those with moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-50 mL/min). The recommended adult dose of silodosin is 8 mg once daily. It is advised to take the medication at the same time each day, preferably with meals. The dose can be adjusted based on the patient’s response to therapy, up to a maximum of 16 mg once daily.

Administration

Flosin Capsule 4 mg should be taken orally with water. It is preferably taken with meals, but may be taken with or without food. The dose should be taken at the same time each day.

Side Effects

Common side effects of silodosin include dizziness, headache, decreased or frequent urination, fatigue, nausea, vertigo, and runny or stuffy nose. Serious side effects are rare and include fainting, difficulty breathing, chest pain, vision changes, and rash.

Toxicity

The effects of a silodosin overdose are unknown but are likely to be similar to the side effects listed above. Overdose should be treated with supportive care.

Precaution

Patients should inform their health care provider of all medications they are taking, including supplements and over-the-counter medications, as drug interactions may occur. Patients should also stop taking Flosin Capsule 4 mg at least 48 hours before having surgery.

Interactions

Flosin Capsule 4 mg can interact with various other medications, including diuretics, antifungal medications, and certain types of antibiotics.

Disease Interaction

Patients with severe kidney, liver, or heart disease should use silodosin with caution.

Drug Interactions

Food Interactions

Foods and dietary supplements do not interact with silodosin.

Pregnancy Use

Acute Overdose

The effects of an acute overdose of silodosin have not been studied. Symptoms of an overdose may include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fainting.

Contraindications
