Introduction

Alkixen Capsule 250 mg is a prescription drug that is used in the treatment of non-small cancer cell lung and anaplastic large cell lymphoma. This drug works by blocking part of a protein in the body called tyrosine kinase which helps cancer cells grow and spread.

Mechanism of Action

Alkixen Capsule 250 mg works by inhibiting the action of the protein, tyrosine kinase, which helps cancer cells grow and spread. Tyrosine kinase has a key role in the signalling pathways in the cells that control cell proliferation, survival and progression.

How Long Does it Take to Work?

Alkixen Capsule 250 mg may begin to work as soon as two weeks after beginning treatment, although it may take longer for some people. Side effects can include fatigue, nausea, and vomiting.

Absorption

Alkixen Capsule 250 mg is well absorbed with an oral bioavailability of 77%-88%. It is eliminated predominantly unchanged in the urine via active tubular secretion.

Dosage

Recommended Dose: 250 mg orally, twice daily

Geriatric Use: No differences in safety or efficacy were observed between older and younger patients. Clinical studies of Crizotinib in patients with ROS1-positive metastatic NSCLC did not include sufficient numbers of patients age 65 years and older to determine whether they respond differently from younger patients

Pediatric Dose: The safety and effectiveness of Crizotinib in pediatric patients have not been established.

Renal impairment: 250 mg orally, once daily in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min) not requiring dialysis. No starting dose adjustment is needed for patients with mild (ClCr 60-89 mL/min) or moderate (ClCr 30-59 mL/min) renal impairment based on a population pharmacokinetic analysis.

Hepatic Impairment: Caution should be used in patients with hepatic impairment

The recommended adult dose of crizotinib is 250 mg taken orally twice daily at least one hour before or two hours after meals, with or without water. It is important to take crizotinib consistently on the same days of each week, at the same time each day.

Acute Overdose

Contraindication

Alkixen Capsule 250 mg is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its inactive ingredients. It is also contraindicated in patients who have shown previous hypersensitivity reactions to the class of drugs known as crizotinib-related compounds.
