I) The area of a rectangle is 40 sq.cm. II) The difference between the length and breadth of the rectangle is 6 cm. III) The Perimeter of a square is equal to the perimeter of the rectangle.
The following question has three statements. Study the question and the statements and decide which of the statement (s) is/are necessary to answer the question. What is the side of a square? I) The area of a rectangle is 40 sq.cm. II) The difference between the length and breadth of the rectangle is 6 cm. III) The Perimeter of a square is equal to the perimeter of the rectangle. Correct Answer All statements are required
From statement I:
Area of a rectangle = 40 sq.cm
⇒ Length × breadth = 40
From statement II:
⇒ Length – breadth = 6
Solving statements I and II,
Length = 10 cm and breadth = 4 cm
⇒ Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(10 + 4) = 28 cm
From statement I, II, and III:
Perimeter of a square = 28 cm
⇒ Side of a square = 28/4 = 7 cm
∴ Using all three statements we can answer the question.
