Given:

Percentage difference of the number of boys and girls in the hostel = 18%

Concept used:

Percentage increase = (100 + Increment in percentage)/100

Calculation:

Boys = × Girls

Boys = (118/100) × Girls

Boys : Girls = 118 : 100

⇒ Boys : Girls = 59 : 50

∴ The ratio of boys and girls = 59 : 50
